Staircase house with authentic elements & indoor garage
How can we call a house in the city center of Mechelen a new building? Because almost everything is newly built, except for the facade and the authentic, reinforced and treated oak beams. The original roof truss was fitted with new roof tiles, insulation and 18 deep black solar panels. The cartouche in the front facade states 1672, possibly referring to the year of construction of the imposing stepped gable. In addition to a large garage, the house also has a covered entrance, large enough to store bicycles, against the backdrop of a beautiful white-lacquered aluminum cladding. Three separate toilets with hand washbasin. 5 rooms of exceptional size. The contractor used considerable insulation thicknesses to achieve an E-level of 60 or better: 14cm in the rear facade, 22cm in the roof, 10cm in the floor (excl. garage) and 12cm in the front facade. The ground floor is designed as a continuous space with living room and open kitchen, overlooking the terrace and garden. The white kitchen features a black composite worktop and quality appliances: induction stove (AEG), 2 ovens (AEG), refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher and extractor hood. In the 2 bathrooms, not only the free-standing bath and walk-in showers steal the show, but also the sink furniture, in which bluestone and weathered oak have been masterfully combined. The Adegemstraat (one way and zone 30) is now being redeveloped, with the integration of greenery, space for cyclists and four parking spaces opposite the hou
